Day of Action in Delaware County Draws Almost 600 Volunteers
There was another record turnout for Heart of Indiana United Way’s Day of Action in Muncie, which was held on Friday, September 9, 2022. Day of Action is a community-wide volunteer event focused on bringing together individuals and groups to help make a difference in the community by working on one-day projects at local nonprofits.
589 volunteers came together to work in a single day of service. They learned about the mission and work of the 17 project sites, and the needs of our community. Volunteers had a great time with others while helping deserving organizations.
The community’s biggest employers brought the most volunteers. Over 400 volunteers were from Ball State and almost 90 volunteers were from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. First Merchants Bank, Ivy Tech, Northwest Bank, Whitinger and Company, Muncie Power Products, YMCA of Muncie, and Muncie Altrusa also joined with volunteer teams. American Electric Power, this year’s presenting sponsor of Day of Action also provided a team of volunteers for the day.
“Day of Action shows what we can accomplish when we come together as a community to make a difference,” said Jenni Marsh, President and CEO of Heart of Indiana United Way. “Volunteering is one of United Way’s key missions and we invite everyone to find a way to get involved and volunteer locally.”
Day of Action volunteers worked on many projects including preparing Literacy Kits with books and activities for children to do with families. They also packed snack packs and hygiene kits, made fleece blankets for those in need and sorted food at our local food bank. They also helped several other nonprofits complete projects that required additional hands to accomplish.
Day of Action has traditionally kicked off United Way’s annual fundraising campaign—which is underway now.
