ANTI-RACISM STATEMENT

Heart of Indiana United Way affirms its commitment to every person in every community by standing for what is right and just regardless of how uncomfortable it may make us or others feel. At our core, United Way works with intentionality turning outward to capture all our community members hopes and dreams. We recognize and condemn the systemic racism that is at the core of oppression and inequity. Those who have been historically marginalized and excluded have hopes and dreams that have gone undervalued. United Way exists to eliminate disparities in our community. This work requires us to focus on race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, as well as other intersectional identities, to end the inequities and injustices that persist in our communities. As an organization, we are committed to cultural humility with the understanding that equity, diversity, inclusion and justice are necessary to create a thriving community for everyone. It is with humility that United Way staff, board and volunteers lean into our discomfort in efforts to learn, grow and act. As Heart of Indiana United Way, we commit to the identification and eradication of our own organizational and systemic barriers. The use of racially evasive tactics or behaviors that uphold racism, inequity and oppression will not be tolerated. We commit to leveraging all our assets (e.g., convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy) to create more equitable communities. We believe that Living United is an ongoing commitment to…
  • equity, diversity, inclusion and justice.
  • making a daily, active choice to be anti-racist.
  • creating a community where fair treatment, access and opportunity exists for every person in Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Madison, and Randolph Counties. Together we can build a community where all are seen, heard and valued.
