ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

To improve the quality of life in our community by engaging people and organizations to advance education, income and health outcomes for all.

OUR VISION

Heart of Indiana United Way envisions a community where all individuals and families achieve their full potential through education, income stability and healthy lives.

COMMUNITY IMPACT STATEMENT

Heart of Indiana United Way works with all partners to improve the capacity of our citizens to achieve and sustain self-sufficiency.

WHAT DOES HEART OF INDIANA UNITED WAY DO?

We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. We work to put ourselves out of a job to end the cycle of generational poverty long-term. Heart of Indiana United Way was established in 2021 when two organizations, United Way of Delaware, Henry, and Randolph Counties and United Way of Madison County, joined forces to transform and improve more lives in Indiana.

WHAT AREAS DOES HEART OF INDIANA UNITED WAY SERVE?

We serve five counties in Indiana including Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Madison, and Randolph.

HOW IS HEART OF INDIANA UNITED WAY CONNECTED TO THE WORLDWIDE UNITED WAY ORGANIZATION?

We are an independent and self-goverened member of the United Way Worldwide network. We meet annual membership requirements and receive support from the worldwide network in the form of training, national advertising, public policy and the ability to draw on the “best practices” of United Ways throughout the world.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION STATEMENT

We take the broadest possible view of diversity.

We value the visible and invisible qualities that make you who you are.

We welcome that every person brings a unique perspective and experience to advance our mission and progress our fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in every community.

We believe that each United Way community member, donor, volunteer, advocate, and employee must have equal access to solving community problems.

We strive to include diversity, equity, and inclusion practices at the center of our daily work.

We commit to using these practices for our business and our communities.

Join us in embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion for every person in every community.

ANTI-RACISM STATEMENT

Heart of Indiana United Way affirms its commitment to every person in every community by standing for what is right and just regardless of how uncomfortable it may make us or others feel. At our core, United Way works with intentionality turning outward to capture all our community members hopes and dreams. We recognize and condemn the systemic racism that is at the core of oppression and inequity. Those who have been historically marginalized and excluded have hopes and dreams that have gone undervalued. United Way exists to eliminate disparities in our community. This work requires us to focus on race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status, as well as other intersectional identities, to end the inequities and injustices that persist in our communities. As an organization, we are committed to cultural humility with the understanding that equity, diversity, inclusion and justice are necessary to create a thriving community for everyone. It is with humility that United Way staff, board and volunteers lean into our discomfort in efforts to learn, grow and act. As Heart of Indiana United Way, we commit to the identification and eradication of our own organizational and systemic barriers. The use of racially evasive tactics or behaviors that uphold racism, inequity and oppression will not be tolerated. We commit to leveraging all our assets (e.g., convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy) to create more equitable communities. We believe that Living United is an ongoing commitment to…
  • equity, diversity, inclusion and justice.
  • making a daily, active choice to be anti-racist.
  • creating a community where fair treatment, access and opportunity exists for every person in Delaware, Fayette, Henry, Madison, and Randolph Counties. Together we can build a community where all are seen, heard and valued.
