There was another great turnout for Heart of Indiana United Way’s Day of Caring in Henry County, which was held on Friday, October 7, 2022. Day of Caring is a community-wide volunteer event focused on bringing together individuals and groups to help make a difference in the community by working on one-day projects at local nonprofits and community organizations.

267 volunteers came together to work in a single day of service. They supported the mission of United Way and met needs in the community at 14 different project sites. Volunteers had a great time with others while helping deserving organizations.

Henry County’s annual Day of Caring is a collaboration between the Henry County Community Foundation, the HOPE Initiative, Heart of Indiana United Way, and hundreds of local volunteers who help.

Students from local Jr. and Sr. High Schools were the bulk of volunteers this year with teams from New Castle High School Junior Optimist Octagon Club, New Castle Career Center, New Castle High School Environmental Club, New Castle High School Volleyball, Shenandoah High School, Blue River High School Volleyball Team, Knightstown Ag Class, Knightstown National Honor Society, Knightstown JAG Classes, and Tri Jr. Sr. High School National Honor Society. Several local businesses and churches also participated in the day with volunteer teams. These included Citizen’s State Bank, First Baptist Church Youth Group, Henry County Community Foundation, Henry County REMC, Henry County Government, Star Financial Bank. Henry Community Health, this year’s presenting sponsor of Day of Caring also provided a team of volunteers for the day

“Day of Caring shows what we can accomplish when we come together as a community to make a difference,” said Jenni Marsh, President and CEO of Heart of Indiana United Way.

“Volunteering is one of United Way’s key missions and we invite everyone to find a way to get involved and volunteer locally.”

Day of Caring volunteers worked on many projects including preparing Literacy Kits with books and activities for children to do with families. They also cleaned up local parks, painted playground equipment and helped with organizing and outdoor clean up at local organizations. They also helped several other nonprofits complete projects that required additional hands to accomplish.
